On Poor Things, Poor Things, and Poor Things.

Well folks, I finally saw my hotly anticipated Poor Things and to say that I gulped in every last visual detail would be an understatement. While I’m not exactly new to the big sleeve life, the costumes and interiors did get my mind spinning. Please, dear reader, allow me to be obnoxious about this for the duration of one brief newsletter.

Here’s what I’m thinking about too much these days, as related to Poor Things:

• Everything was so lush and just generally visually insane, but strangely(?) the quilted — ahem, padded — walls in certain areas of the Baxter family home had the biggest chokehold on me. Unsurprisingly, I’ve not-so-secretly wished for some time now to outfit my bed with a vintage eiderdown, and there is quite a visual similarity between these two plush, tactile things. There are a few vintage options on Etsy, or of course you could always go the ultra-luxe route. A good option for when quilted walls aren’t in the cards (right now, anyway.)

• I was absolutely obsessed with Bella’s subtle chain choker. Naturally for this, I’m going to suggest a Catbird chain choker. (IRL friends, please don’t judge me too hard if I’m wearing one of these everyday, um, all of a sudden).

• Bella’s funky white boots has me ready for a spring footwear upgrade, too. I have my eye on the Low Sedia Clog in off-white by Beklina. Lighter colors can be challenging for me, a messy person, but these are still gorg.

• I say go to the source (Vermont Country Store) when it comes to new frilly sleepwear.

• Annoyingly, I’m planning to channel a lot of the clothing inspo from the film into my knitting queue. For the flouncier outfits, silk mohair yarn is just the ticket for such a translation, I think. I’ve been hoarding balls of Valley Yarns Southampton in many pastel colors (plus olive green, of course); right now on my needles is my second Cloudbow Dress, this time in one of their pink shades (I made a lovely version of it in “Dusky Green” last spring and it’s my favorite thing ever.) Also, the last costume of the film — that cycling sweater! — is a must-make for me. I think I’ll try to make the Bernadette Turtleneck by Fabel Knitwear.
